About Athletic Communications

The University of Vermont Athletic Communications Office serves as the primary source of information for the University's 18 athletic programs. The office is responsible for generating press releases, feature stories, weekly notebooks, game notes, student-athlete and staff bios, updated statistics, records, maintaining the UVM Athletics website, and designing, writing and editing media guides for all of UVM's varsity athletic teams.

Members of the media are encouraged to get in touch with the appropriate sport contact for any information needed about specific teams at Vermont. The Athletic Communications staff is always interested in assisting members of the media in their coverage of UVM athletics.

Athletic Communications Office Location
The UVM Athletic Communications Office is located in on the balcony level in Patrick Gymnasium. Enter the front lobby of Patrick Gymnasium, veer to the right and go through the double doors, head up the stairs and at the top of the stairs take a right, the athletic communications office is located in rooms 204-206.

Interview Policy

All interviews - in-person or via telephone or email - with University of Vermont student-athletes, coaches or administrators must be arranged through the appropriate sport contact in the UVM Athletic Communications Office 24 hours in advance. For men's hockey and men's and women's basketball a practice schedule with daily interview times will be emailed to all members of the local media on a weekly basis. Please note that student-athlete telephone numbers will not be given out under any circumstances.

Postgame Interview Policy
The Vermont locker rooms are closed to all members of the media for all games. Coaches and student-athletes will be made available in interview areas at each venue. Athletic Communications staff members will point them out to all media members prior to contests and also poll the media at the conclusion of the games for requested student-athletes. With the exception of live television games, student-athletes and coaches will be available after a 10-minute cooling off period. All arrangements and requests for postgame interviews should be made through the appropriate sport contact. Interviews with coaches and student-athletes from a visiting team should be made through the visiting sports information director.

Injury Policy

Day-to-Day or In-Game Injuries
Members of the athletic department (student-athletes, head coaches, medical staff) will not comment on the details of injuries that occur during a game or practice. Head coaches will acknowledge that a student-athlete is injured but will not comment on the nature of the injury or a timetable of when the student-athlete will return to competition.

Indefinite Length of Time Injury/Illness
Head coaches will acknowledge that a student-athlete is injured and will be out of competition for an indefinite period, but will refer media to the athletic medicine staff, either UVM's Director of Athletic Medicine Services, Allison Shepherd or Team Physician, Dr. Jon Porter, for further details of the injury. A comment will be made only after the student-athlete grants permission to discuss the injury, the student-athlete's parent(s) have been informed, and if media interest warrants.

Season Ending Injury
Head coaches will acknowledge that a student-athlete is injured and be out of competition for the entire season, but will refer media to the athletic medicine staff, either UVM's Director of Athletic Medicine Services, Allison Shepherd or Team Physician, Dr. Jon Porter, for further details of the injury. A comment will be made only after the student-athlete grants permission to discuss the injury, the student-athlete's parent(s) have been informed, and if media interest warrants.

Television & Radio

All Vermont men's hockey and men's and women's basketball games are broadcast via commercial radio stations Catamount Radio Network.

Radio broadcasts are also streamed for free on the Internet through SportsJuice.com.

Men's hockey and women's basketball games can be heard locally on WVMT-620 AM. Chris Wojcik serves as the play-by-play announcer for the men's hockey team, while Alastair Ingram handles the play-by-play duties for the women's basketball team.

Rob Ryan handles the play calling dutied for the men's basketball games, which can be heard locally on WEAV-960 AM/96.7 FM.

Visiting Radio
All stations planning on broadcasting University of Vermont games should contact the appropriate sport contact to make arrangements. Both Patrick Gymnasium and Gutterson Fieldhouse have space and phone lines dedicated to visiting radio stations.

Television
Selected UVM athletic games will be broadcast on national, regional or local television stations. Please check your local listings to be sure the television station is available in your area.

Webcasting via B2 Networks
Watch all home Vermont men's and women's hockey, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's soccer games live on the Internet via B2 Networks. View each game on a pay-per-view basis for $7.00 each or buy a season package CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO.

Media Credentials

Media credentials are required for all UVM athletic events and will be issued to working media only. Credentials can also be obtained by contacting the appropriate sport contact. Requests for media credentials should be submitted at least 48 hours in advance to ensure credentials being granted.

For America East and Hockey East Playoff and Championship, NCAA or other postseason events, the University at Vermont follows the guidelines set forth by the NCAA and the America East and Hockey East Conference governing the issuance of credentials.

Media Services

Live Shots
Any television station wishing to broadcast live from Patrick Gymnasium or Gutterson Fieldhouse must put in a request 24 hours in advance to the appropriate sport contact.

Parking
There is plenty of free parking in the parking garage located next to the Patrick Gymnasium/Gutterson Fieldhouse Athletic Complex. Media members who have concerns about parking can call Lisa Champagne, Director of Athletic Communications, at 802-656-1818.

Wireless Internet/Ethernet Connections
Free wireless and hardwire internet service is available in Patrick Gymnasium and Gutterson Fieldhouse. Any media member wishing to use the wireless internet service in either venue should contact the appropriate sport contact to make arrangements to use the service.

Anyone who would like to be added to an eNews list to receive all information that is sent out via your personal email account, please email the Athletic Communications office at sportspr@uvm.edu or click on the link above. Please be sure to indicate which sport(s) eNews you would like to receive.

Vermont Student-Athlete Questionnaires

Student-Athlete Questionnaire - .pdf version | word version
The Athletic Communications Office uses information obtained by the student-athlete questionnaire to provide background material for bios on the UVM Athletics website, media guides and members of the media for feature stories, hometown stories, press releases and interviews.

Student-athletes are asked to complete the questionnaire with as much information as they can provide. The athletic communications office encourages student-athletes to provide additional documents with their academic and athletic achievements listed.
