CollegeInsider.com Freshmen All-American Team
BURLINGTON, Vt. --
Mike Trimboli (Norwalk, Conn.) of the University of Vermont was
named to the CollegeInsider.com Freshmen All-America Team. The national
college basketball website made the announcement this week.
Trimboli is one of 25 members of the squad selected by the staff of CollegeInsider.com with input from several of the nation’s coaches. Last week he was named the America East Rookie of the Year, the fifth Catamount to win the award joining former UVM greats Eddie Benton ’96, Tony Orciari ’01, T.J. Sorrentine ’05 and Taylor Coppenrath ’05. He also was an America East All-Conference Second Team selection, the lone freshman on an all-league squad.
The conference leader in assists averaging 5.6 per game, he is the top freshmen scorer at 13.9 points per game, eighth-best in the league. He also ranks fourth in the conference in free throw shooting (84%) and is sixth in steals (1.52 pg). Trimboli’s 163 assists are the second most in a single season at Vermont behind Howard Hudson ‘86 who had 177 in 1985-86.
Saturday Vermont (13-16) makes its fourth straight appearance in the America East Championship Game. The sixth-seeded Catamounts take on top-seeded Albany (20-10) at noon at UAlbany’s Recreation and Convocation Center (TV: ESPN2; Radio: WXZO 96.7 FM, WEAV 960 AM, WCVR 102.1 FM; Internet audio: www.sportsjuice.com; Live Stats: www.americaeast.com).
