Vermont's All-Time Men's Hockey Team "The ECAC Years" Announced

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Vermont Athletic Department announced its All-Time Men’s Hockey Team “The ECAC Years” before No. 6 Vermont’s game against Northeastern at Gutterson Fieldhouse tonight. More than 2,700 votes were collected as fans chose from a list of 28 finalists to determine the best players ever to wear the green and gold. Vermont’s All-Time Men’s Hockey Team “The ECAC Years” is as follows:

Goaltenders (2)
Dave Reece ‘71 - Reece played for the Catamounts from 1968-1971. He posted a mark of 45-29-0 and holds the school record with 152 minutes and 33 seconds of consecutive scoreless play. He also shares the school record for most saves in a game with 52. He was a three-time team MVP, a team captain, ECAC Player of the Year in 1970 and an All-American in 1970 and 1971. In addition he played in the NHL with the Boston Bruins.

Tim Thomas ‘97 - Thomas played for the Catamounts from 1993-1997 and is first or second in every goalkeeping category at UVM. In 140 games played he had a record of 81-44-15. He holds five different team goaltending records. In 1996, he took home ECAC Goalie of the Year honors and helped the Catamounts to their only Frozen Four appearance. He was an All-American in 1995 and 1996 and currently plays in the NHL with the Boston Bruins.

Defensemen (4)
Louis Cote ‘80 - This playmaking defenseman played from 1976-80 and is 14th on the Vermont career-scoring list with 28 goals and 114 assists for 142 points. He is the top-scoring defensemen in Catamount history, leading the team in points during the 1977-78 season. He twice led the team in assists and was on the 1980 ECAC All-Conference team. He also was an All-American in 1979 and 1980.

George Kreiner ‘70 - A consummate defenseman, Kreiner wore the green and gold from 1967-70. He captained the Catamounts in his last two seasons and guided Vermont to an ECAC championship in 1969-70. He was on the ECAC All-Conference Team and an All-American in both 1969 and 1970. He also was a former coach with the Catamounts and the first hockey player to be elected into the Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame.

Aaron Miller ’93 - Miller played for the Catamounts from 1989-93. A team captain in his senior year, he was a two-time ECAC All-Conference selection and earned All-American honors in 1993. Miller is a two-time member of the U.S. Olympic Team and a current member of the Los Angeles Kings.

Ted Yeates ’72 - Yeates played for Vermont from 1969-72. He was a two-time captain and holds the team record for most goals in a season by a defenseman with 13. He was twice a member of the ECAC All-Conference Team and an All-American in 1971 and 1972.

Forwards (6)
Ian Boyce ’88 - A great team leader with a tremendous all-around game, Boyce played for Vermont from 1985-89. A team captain in his senior year, he led the Catamounts to their first ECAC final in 15 years. He earned ECAC All-Conference honors in 1988 and was inducted into the Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

Craig Homola ’81 - A pure talent, Homola played for the Catamounts from 1977-1981. He twice led the team in points and is fourth all-time in scoring at Vermont. He holds the Vermont record for most goals in a game with five and had stretch of registering a point in 32 consecutive games. Homola was the 1980 ECAC Player of the Year and an All-American in 1980.

John LeClair ’91 - This native Vermonter played for his state school from 1987-91. He was the team MVP and on the ECAC All-Conference Team in 1991. He went on to attain superstar status in the NHL and is the first Catamount to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup. LeClair was also a two-time member of the U.S. Olympic Team and currently is a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Tim O’Connell ’76 - One of the most explosive players ever to wear the green and gold, O’Connell played from 1972-76. He is third all-time in scoring at Vermont and his 41 goals in one season are the most in school history. He was the ECAC Rookie of the Year in 1973, an All-American in 1975 and team MVP in 1976. In addition he was a three-time ECAC All-Conference selection.

Eric Perrin ’97 - Perrin played at Vermont from 1993-97. His 107 goals are the most ever at Vermont. He led the team in goals all four years wearing the green and gold. His 85 points in 1995-96 tie him for most points in a season for a Catamount and he ranks second all-time points at UVM. Perrin was also a three-time ECAC All-Conference selection, the 1994 ECAC Rookie of the Year, the 1996 ECAC Player of the Year and an All-American in 1996. In addition he was a part of Tampa Bay’s Stanley Cup championship in 2004.

Martin St. Louis ’97 - St. Louis played at Vermont from 1993-97. He is the all-time leading scorer in school history with 91 goals and 176 assists for 267 points. He also scored 85 points in a season, the most ever scored by a Catamount. He was a two-time team captain, a three-time team MVP and the 1995 ECAC Player of the Year. In addition he was a three-time All-American, a three-time Hobey Baker Award Finalist and a three-time ECAC All-Conference selection. St. Louis was also named to the 2006 Canadian Olympic Team and won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004. That same year he also won the NHL scoring title and league MVP.
