UVM Women's Hockey Travels to No. 7 Northeastern for Hockey East Game

VERMONT WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The University of Vermont women’s hockey travels to Boston to take on Hockey East foe No. 7 Northeastern on Wednesday (Nov. 25) at 3 p.m. at Matthews Arena.

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN
The Huskies are on top of the Hockey East standings with a conference record of 5-1-2 with a shootout win. Their overall record is 9-2-2. Northeastern has outscored its opponents this season by a score of 31-14.

Sophomore goalie Florence Schellings has been a defensive star for the Huskies this season owning a goals against average of 0.99 and a save percentage of .964. She has been named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row.

Alyssa Wohlfeiler and Kristi Kehoe lead the offensive attack for Northeastern with 12 points each. A total of 10 different players have found the back of the net for the Huskies this season, with eight players recording at least two goals.

SERIES HISTORY
After sweeping a weekend series in Burlington last month Northeastern holds an 11-2-1 record all-time against the Catamounts. UVM has won once in Boston, with a 1-0 victory during the 2005-06 season.

Northeastern defeated UVM 3-0 and 1-0 earlier this year at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

GAME-WINNER
Sophomore Kailey Nash (Middletown, R.I.) has notched three game-winning goals in Vermont’s first 10 games. She is one game-winning goal shy of tying the all-time record of four set by Torrey Dennis in the 1999-00 season.

Nash is tied for second in the nation with her three game-winning goals.

USING THE ADVANTAGE
The Catamounts have excelled on special teams this year. Vermont set a school-record with 22 consecutive penalty kills, which was snapped against Boston U on Nov. 11. However, when UVM is on the power play usually finds the back of the net.

Kailey Nash is tied for the lead in the nation with seven power-play goals. Freshman Emily Walsh (Suffield, Conn.) is tied for 11th in the nation with three power-play goals this season.

WHO’S NEXT | 2009-10 Schedule
Vermont returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 28) when it hosts Dartmouth at 7 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast on WVMT-620 AM and on the Internet at SportsJuice.com. Live video of the game will also be available for the Dartmouth game on a pay-per-view basis via B2 Networks.
