Welcome to the University of Vermont Department of Social Work web page. The Department features a combined BSW and MSW program. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Our mission statement identifies a clear vision of the program and its unique focus. You will find favorable faculty to student ratios, inspiring teachers with strong interests in research and scholarship focusing on state, national and international social work issues. Our faculty are consistently rated by our students as excellent teachers according to teacher evaluations and alumni surveys.
We currently have over 90 BSW majors and 70 full and part-time students in the MSW program. Students can choose a variety of ways to complete their programs. But there is one thing in common to all options; that each student will be assigned a full-time faculty member who guides them through the program. Please see the link to the faculty web page for information on our faculty.
I know that you will find this site helpful. Our Admissions coordinator Lisa Lax is available to talk with you directly about any questions that you have about the program. We would love to talk with you about the program, invite you for a visit to see the campus, sit in on a class or meet with our students and faculty. Our program is committed to providing a quality learning experience that prepares each student for the contemporary practice of social work. You will join our graduates around the nation and the world who are improving the lives of individuals, families and advancing the quality of life in our communities, neighborhoods and organizations.
I look forward to hearing from you and I’m confident you will find something on this web site and that will interest you in our program. Contact me at: Gary.Widrick@uvm.edu
