Fothergill (Ph.D. University of Colorado, Boulder) specializes in the
areas of family, gender, inequality, disasters, and qualitative
methodology. Her book, Heads Above Water: Gender, Class, and Family in
the Grand Forks Flood, was published with SUNY Press in 2004. The book

1997 after a flood of historic proportions. Currently, her research
projects include an in-depth study of daycare centers, an examination
of racial profiling by the New Jersey State Police, an analysis of
volunteerism after the September 11 terrorist attacks, and a study of
academics' strategies to balance work and family demands. Professor
Fothergill teaches courses on marriage and the family and the sociology
of disasters. |
