TREK

Save The Dates: TREK 2009 will be held Sat. August 22nd - Thurs. August 27th!

What is TREK?

TREK is an intense and unique team-building and enrichment program for first-year students led by upper-class peers.  Sponsored by the Department of Student Life Outdoor and Leadership & Civic Engagement Programs, TREK has offered new students diverse, experiential learning opportunities that promote community building, self-discovery, and connection with future classmates for over 30 years.

Each trip is led by two upper-class student leaders who lead between 8-10 new students on a week of service projects or out in the back country of Vermont and upstate New York.  This August, we will welcome more than 250 TREKKIES from the Class of 2013!  We hope you will be one of them.  Find out about 2008's TREKKIE experience in the video from our local Seven Days newspaper here:

Financial Assistance

Financial help is available for TREKKIES through financial aid measured on stated need or by Identity-Based Scholarships (eligible identities include: first-time students, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/questioning/queer students, students of color, or students with disabilities).  Each year we offer 7 fully paid TREK identity scholarships to these under-represented incoming student populations.

TREK 2009 will take place the last week in August before classes begin, Sat. August 22th-Thursday, August 27th. Due to overwhelming demand, we suggest you get your application in early. The registration for TREK opens on Monday, May 4th, 2009 at 12pm (EST) and closes on Monday, July 6th.  We hope that no one will have to miss out! Learn more about the variety of TREK trips, frequently asked questions, and other information in the menu options on your upper left.

Who is TREK For?

The TREK program is for any new first-year student or transfer student who wants to become a part of a community upon arrival to UVM as a new student. Through TREK we celebrate and promote a safe and healthy community for people of all races, ethnicities, religions, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, disabilities, and ages. During TREK week, TREKKIES and TREK leaders live, work, and play together as a community, bound together by interests in Service, Leadership or Outdoor Adventures.

You DO NOT need any prior experience to participate in TREK! We strive to create a community of inclusion and therefore encourage ALL students who are new to UVM to apply. Any necessary support/adaptation for all individual needs will be made.

Accessibility & Accommodation: The TREK program is firmly committed to including all interested first year students. Students with any type of disability are encouraged to apply and participate in all TREK programs. We provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations, in consultation with ACCESS. Students who are seeking accommodations should contact ACCESS and TREK well in advance, as some accommodations take time to implement.
