Dear Dr. Ramaley:

The National Science Foundation hereby awards a grant of $250,000 to University of Vermont for support of the project described in the proposal referenced above, as modified by the revised budget dated January 21, 1999, as further modified by NSF.

This project, under the direction of Stephen J. Cavrak, Division of Computing and Information Technologies, Charles J. Colbourn, Department of Computer Science and David E. Dougherty, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is entitled:

"The University of Vermont vBNS Connection."

This award is effective February 15, 1999 and expires January 31, 2000.

This is a continuing grant which has been approved on scientific / technical merit for approximately 2 years. Contingent on the availability of funds and the scientific progress of the project, NSF expects to continue support at approximately the following level:

FY2000 $100,000

This grant is awarded pursuant to the authority of the National Science Foundation Act of 1950 (42 U.S.C. 1861 et seq.) and is subject to GC-1 Grant General Conditions (10/98) and the following terms and conditions:

The provisions of NSF 98-102, "Connections to the Internet", are applicable to this award.

As a condition of this award, the grantee agrees to provide cost sharing as specified in the referenced proposal, as amended, in the amount of $198,875 for Year 1 and $167,000 for Year 2. No Federal funds may be used to meet the grantee's cost sharing obligation for this project.

The attached budget indicates the amounts, by categories, on which NSF has based its support.
