• Mosaic, from NCSA - The National Center for Supercomputing Applictions. This is the Mosaic that started it all!

• Netscape, from Netscape, Inc. Netscape is a spin-off company made up of the original Mosaic developement team. Normally a commercial product; free for educational sites.

• MacWeb, WinWeb, from Einet Galaxy. A compact, no frills package; the Macintosh version is very nice for developing a web site "off-line."

Visiting a Particular Page: The URL

Particular pages, sometimes home pages, are accessed by using the URL, the Universal Resource Locator. For example.

Working your way around the web, sometimes called navigating, sometimes called browsing, is sort of like windowshopping in a strange city. Eventually we find where the bargains are.
