1 FTP is a utility for transferring files from one computer to another. Telnet is a utility that allows a user to access a remote computer over the network. For more information about these and other Internet related software program see references 1,2, or 3.

2 HTML - (Hyper-Text Markup Language) This is the document design language for WWW documents. Using HTML you can specific different formats, headings and other features in a plain text file.

3 URL : Uniform Resource Locator

4 GIF (pronounced jiff - like the brand of peanut butter) is a particular format used to store graphics. A GIF converter refers to a program designed to convert graphics to GIF format from other formats.

5 Shareware refers to software packages that are developed and released to the public with the suggestion that the user send the author a small sum of money in exchange for the software. The user is not required to send any money. (A related term is "freeware" which refers to software that is distributed to the public with no expectation of payment.)

6 A hypertext link has two components - the link and the anchor point. The link is the phrase that you click on to follow a hypertext link and the anchor point to the section of the text were the hypertext link leads to.

7 Discussion groups, Listservs, D-lists, BBoards - These terms are are all used to describe facilities that enable large groups of people to 'discuss' various topics. For example, the is a discussion group comp.www.providers which is used to discusses issues related to providing information using WWW and Mosaic.
