A National Fraternity
  • Strength in Numbers
  • Not just a national fraternity, but the biggest national fraternity...and it has been that way for over twenty years. Founded at The University of Richmond on November 1, 1901, SigEp now boasts over 14,000 undergraduate members. With over 250 chapters across the country, SigEp has become the first fraternity to establish charters in all 50 states. SigEp also has the greatest living alumni population of any fraternity in America.

  • Principles of Moral
  • The mission of SigEp is clear: Build Balanced Leaders for the World's Communities. This leadership is developed by helping members strive for balance in their lives, building Sound Minds and Sound Bodies as a lifetime habit based on one of the core ideas of ancient Greek philosophy of the Balanced Man. The founders of Sigma Phi Epsilon admired the ancient Greeks and desired to establish a fraternity based upon their balanced life ideal. They selected Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love as the cardinal principles. These remain the cardinal principles of SigEp to this day.

    Our Chapter
  • Strength in Numbers
  • In coordination with our national reputation, our chapter is strong in member population. With over 45 active brothers, SigEp is the largest fraternity at The University of Vermont. It has also been one of the fastest-growing fraternities in recent years here, having grown from 11 members since its re-establishment in 1997.

  • Our House
  • One of the greatest parts of our chapter is our headquarters. Known as "The Lodge," Our House, built in 1897, houses 20 brothers, nearly half of our members. At 12,000 square feet, it is one of the largest fraternal estates on campus.

  • A Society of Leaders
  • Our chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon consists of men who wish to develop into balanced leaders here at UVM. Aside from having a strong share of campus leaders, scholars, musicians, and athletes, The House provides its own intramural opportunities. At SigEp, there is a role for everyone. We are self-governed by our own board of Brothers. Known as "E-Board," our governing system consists of a President, 5 Vice Presidents each overseeing their own division of the house, and a Chaplain. Working "beneath" each of the 7 primary house roles include the House Manager, a manager of Philanthropic activities, and an entire Standards Board, among many, many others.

  • We Love What We Do
  • Perhaps the most important aspect of our chapter is the social bonds which we hold so dearly. From numerous social events throughout the year, to formals and community service, we have a great time. Many of the older brothers in the House, upon moving out of 371 Main Street, end up living together to continue to enjoy their shared bond of friendship.

  • Who We Look For
  • Our chapter does not necessarily look out for leaders, scholars, musicians, or athletes. Rather, we plan to help to mold our Brothers into these types of Balanced Men. The Vermont Gamma Chapter of SigEp instead looks for men who truly wish to pursue these ideals, with a willingness to learn, and, most importantly, a good will.
