Justin Assad began coaching the UVM team during the fall of 2003.  A class of 2003 graduate from Columbia University, he was captain of the team during a resurgence that saw Columbia Sailing's first Ivy League Championship and their emergence as a competitive collegiate program.  He has spent five summers coaching at East Greenwich Yacht Club in Rhode Island, working with both the Opti and 420 teams.  He is currently a regional and assistant national team coach for USODA, and has experience coaching many major Opti and 420 regattas. Assad is active in the Vanguard 15 class and at USTRA events.

 

 

 

 

Assistant Coach:  Greg Koman

 


Greg Koman started his collegiate sailing experience at Connecticut College before
transferring to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  Upon arriving at Umass, Greg
immediately took over the leadership role of the team and under his tenure turned it into
the top ranked student-run sailing team in New England.  Since graduating, Greg coached
the Dover-Sherborn High School sailing team in Massachusetts until the Spring of 2006. 
In the summer, he has directed programs in Sherborn and Scituate, MA, and more recently,
has captained a ship for the adventure sailing camp, Sail Caribbean.  Greg's first season
with UVM sailing was the fall of 2007.
