Many of those who study Italian at UVM are drawn to the Italian language as a means of immersing themselves in Italy’s rich cultural heritage or as preparation for an international career, while others also look forward to learning more about an important component of their own family history. Our Italian classes offer students the small-class learning environment they need to develop their foreign language skills. The Department offers a major in Italian Studies and two different minors in Italian Studies and Italian. Many students find their advanced work in Italian or Italian Studies to be a useful and enjoyable way to support their coursework in history, geography, political science, international relations, English, philosophy, classical languages and cultures, archaeology, archi¬tecture, film, design, art, and all fields of artistic endeavor that we so often associate with Italy.
