A native of the South of France, Marielle Macias Aunave studied in the French Alps and earned a Master's in American and British Literature from the Université de Savoie, France. In 1994-95 she was an exchange-student at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque specializing in Native American Literature. She pursued her studies in French Literature and earned a Master's from UVM in 1998 which lead to her teaching in the Williston Central School in Williston, Vermont. She was a professional cyclist from 2003-2007 and raced both in the U.S. and Europe. She competed in the Grande Boucle Internationale Fé minine, Tour of Aude, Tour of Bretagne, Montreal world cup and the Tour of Grand Montreal. She is currently focusing her research on the women's Tour de France conducting interviews with professional cyclists and examining the inequalities of sponsorship between male and female racers.
