Faculty - Debora De Granville Manço Teixeira
Debora Teixeira is a Lecturer in Portuguese at the Department of Romance Languages. She was born in Brazil, and raised between Brazil and the US, becoming fluent in both Portuguese and English. She received her formal education as a Doctor in Dental Surgery at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, from 1983 -1986. After teaching at the School of Dentistry of the University of Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, she returned to the United States (Charlottesville, Virginia) in 1998, where she became involved in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language). Debora received training in TESOL at the University of Virginia and worked in this field from 1999 – 2003, both in the US and in Brazil. While at UVA, she also offered tutoring in Portuguese for graduate students prior to their stay in Brazil as part of their research training. After moving to Vermont, she continued to work in the field of Dentistry while volunteering as an ESL instructor at the Fletcher Free Library. Debora joined the UVM Department of Romance Languages in the Fall of 2009 to develop the courses and teach at the newly inaugurated Portuguese program. Her main interests in the field of Humanities are the Process of Language Acquisition and Brazilian Language and Culture. Her personal interests include Science, Cooking, and Music.
