The Department of Romance Languages and Linguistics houses UVM's programs in French, Italian, and Spanish, and Linguistics. In addition to our courses in language study, we offer a full array of classes on the literatures and cultures of the many regions of the world where the languages we teach are spoken, and on the form and meaning of human language itself. Our Degree Programs

We offer undergraduate majors and minors in French, Italian Studies, Linguistics, and Spanish, as well as a separate minor in Italian . All of our language programs, offer the chance to study abroad through one of UVM's exchange partner universities. Learn more about our programs.

Meet Our Faculty

Our Department includes 37 instructors across our academic programs in French, Italian, Linguistics, and Spanish. In addition to the courses we teach in our own Department, many of us also collaborate closely with one or more of UVM's other academic programs intersecting our areas of specialization, including Global & Regional Studies, Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies, and World Literature.
