Historical Grading
A. September 1, 1983 to September 1, 1991
Grades were the same as currently used except WP and WF were in effect.
WP Withdrawn-Passing. Not used in grade-point average computation.
WF Withdrawn-Failure. This grade is weighted as an F in the computation of the grade-point average.
B. September 1, 1965 to September 1, 1983
Grades were the same as currently used except + and - suffixes were recorded but not used in computing the grade point average.
C. July 1, 1946 to September 1, 1965
I. UNDERGRADUATE: (90-100) Excellent; (80-89) Very Good; (70-79)
Average; (60-69) Passing; (0-59) Failing; (Inc.) Incomplete; (Abs.) Absent
from Final Examination; -Abolished in February 1949; (Dpd.) Dropped-with
penalty equivalent to grade 45. Beginning September 1961, lowest recorded
grade - 45; (Aud.) Audited, without credit.
II. GRADUTE: (90-100) Excellent; (80-89) Good; (75-79) Acceptable; Below
75, unacceptable. An overall average of 85 is required. (Inc.) Incomplete;
(Dpd.) Dropped-with-penalty equivalent to grade 45. beginning September
1961, lowest grade - 45; (Aud.) Audited, without credit.
COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Prior to September 1967, the work of students was evaluated on the basis of 100 percent. The lowest passing grade was 75 percent except in the case of minor
subjects. In the first and second years, the passing grade for each minor subject was 75 percent. In the third year a grade of 60 percent was accepted for
individual minor subjects, but the average for a group of minor subjects must have been 75 percent.
September 1967 - August 1969, the work of students was evaluated on the basis of A, B, C, and F. The lowest passing grade was C.
In September of 1969, the College adopted a pass/fail method of student evaluation.
P or Pass = satisfactory completion of all course work
F or Fail = less than satisfactory performance
Fail/Pass = less than satisfactory performance in initial endeavor, course repeated and makeup work evaluated as satisfactory.
