Recycling & Waste Management

Off-Campus Recycling

Off-Campus Recycling & Trash Services

University recycling bins and trash dumpsters should not be used for household waste from off-campus and non-University locations. This is considered unauthorized dumping, and violators will be prosecuted. Staff, faculty and students who live off-campus must make provisions for handling their own residential recycling and trash.

 Students! Living Downtown?

The City of Burlington has a curbside recycling “blue box” program for single-family residences. Residents can receive a free “blue box” from the Department of Public Works. Contact the Burlinton DPW to get your "blue box" and to find out your weekly collection day. Please do not take the UVM recycle boxes when you move out of your residence hall. We need these for next year’s students.

The City of Burlington does not have a municipal trash pickup system. Contact your landlord or a private waste hauler (see “Rubbish & Garbage Removal” in the Yellow Pages) to make arrangements to have your trash disposed of properly.
