Recycling & Waste Management

UVM Recycling and Solid Waste Home Page

Welcome!

The UVM Recycling and Waste Management program is part of the Physical Plant Department. We oversee the daily collection of solid waste, recycling and food scrap composting on campus from all University buildings and facilities, and coordinate many programs to reduce, reuse and recycle the University's waste stream.

Did You Know?

The University recycles about 1.5 tons of paper, cardboard, bottles and cans PER DAY.

Red Cups Can Be Recycled:  In October 2007, the list of plastic materials that can be recycled on campus got bigger! We now recycle more types of plastic containers due to expanded guidelines from the Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD). This includes "dairy tubs" such as yogurt, cottage cheese and margarine containers, most "take out" food containers, plastic cups, and boxboard such as 6-pack and 12-pack bottle carton carriers. Refer to the new list here.  (Of course, it's still better to carry your own cup).
