Gregg started his career at UVM in 1997 as the Intramural Sports Coordinator and moved to the position of Campus Recreation Director in 1998. He began working in the sports world as a sports marketing intern at the University of New Hampshire ('96) while getting a B.S. in Sports Administration. Gregg later worked as a graduate intern for intramural sports at the University of Connecticut before moving to Vermont.
Gregg is very active in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). As a 13 year member he has served two terms as a the Vermont State Director, co-hosted a NIRSA Region 1 Conference, served as chair of the Region 1 Student Scholarship Committee, served on the Nominations and Election Committee, and presented at various regional and national conferences.
In his spare time, Gregg enjoys playing as much golf as he can, but is quick to admit that his handicap does not seem to be getting any lower. Gregg lives with his wife, Meredith, and his 2 children, Allison (4) and Billy (2). The Bates family enjoys traveling to South Carolina and Maine for vacations.
