Gregg Bates started his career at UVM in 1997 as the Intramural Sports Coordinator and moved to the position of Director of Campus Recreation in 1998 and currently holds the title of Associate Athletic Director in addition to Director of Campus Recreation.
He began working in the sports industry as a sports marketing intern at the University of New Hampshire ('96) while getting a bachelor's degree in sports administration. Bates later worked as a graduate intern for intramural sports at the University of Connecticut before moving to Vermont.
In addition leading Campus Recreation, Bates is responsible for the oversight of all facility scheduling and coordinates all department summer camps. Bates also serves on the department’s Policy and Planning Committee, Event Operations Committee and the Budget and Operations Committee.
Bates is active in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). As a member since 1996 he has served two terms as a the Vermont State Director, co-hosted a NIRSA Region 1 Conference, served as chair of the Region 1 Student Scholarship Committee, served on the Nominations and Election Committee, and presented at various regional and national conferences.
A native of Lebanon, N.H., Bates and his wife, Meredith, have two children, Allison and Billy and reside in Williston, Vt.
