Learner/participant outcomes

  • To examine two electronic portfolios
  • To learn how to assess an electronic portfolio
  • To discuss what we learned about each of these two students from their portfolios
  • To make recommendations regarding the potential of electronic portfolio development

Methods

Participants will work in small groups with sample electronic portfolios completed by our pre-service student interns for state certification. They will be shown how to review the portfolios and be given rubrics to guide them in the process. Each group will provide feedback to the whole and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of electronic portfolio assessment and make recommendations about their potential as an assessment tool. We will provide laptop computers for groups of 2-3 participants.

  • Introduction to provide context for the discussion (15 minutes)
  • Demonstration of how to review the portfolios (15 minutes)
  • Group review of electronic portfolios (30 minutes)
  • Large group facilitated discussion of experiences and reflections (15 minutes)
