Sample Course Plan to Complete a Psychology B.S.

Number of Psychology Course Credits

A maximum of 50 psychology course credits can count toward the 120 total course credits required to graduate with a B.S. in Psychology.

Year 1

First Semester

• PSYC 001 General Psychology (3 credits)
• MATH 019/021 Fundamentals of Calculus I (3 or 4 credits)

Second Semester

• PSYC 1xx 100-Level Course (3 credits)
• PSYC 1xx 100-Level Course (3 credits)
• MATH 020/022 Fundamentals of Calculus II (3 or 4 credits)

Year 2

First Semester

• PSYC 109 Psychology Research Methods I (3 credits)
• PSYC 1xx 100-Level Course (3 credits)
• BIOL 001 or BCOR 011 Principles of Biology or Exploring Biology (4 credits)

Second Semester

• PSYC 110 Psychology Research Methods II (4 credits)
• PSYC 1xx 100-Level Course (3 credits)
• BIOL 002 or BCOR 012 Principles of Biology or Exploring Biology (4 credits)

Year 3

First Semester

• PSYC 1xx 100-Level Course (3 credits)
• PSYC 2xx 200-Level Course (3 or 4 credits)

Notes

1. PSYC 100-Level refers to any 100-level required courses (PSYC 104, 121, 130, 152, 161). There is no recommended order in which these should be completed.
2. PSYC 200-Level refers to any 200-level course. Each student must complete at least three courses at the 200 level. PSYC 109 is a prerequisite for 200 level courses. These courses must come from at least two of the three categories of 200 level Psychology courses:
   • Category A = "biobehavioral"; PSYC 205, 206, 207, 215, 220, 221, 222, 223, 224
   • Category B = "social" and "developmental"; PSYC 224, 230, 233, 236, 237, 240, 241, 261, 262, 265, 266, 267, 268
   • Category C = "clinical"; PSYC 250, 251, 255, 269
3. PSYC 100- or 200-Level refers to the fact that each student must complete at least 12 additional credits at or above the 100 level.
4. Additional Science or Math course refers to:
   • Biology (except BIOL 001 or 002 or BCOR 011 or 012)
   • Chemistry (any)
   • Geology (any)
   • Physics (any)
   • Anatomy & Neurobiology (any)
   • Statistics (STAT 141, or any at the 200 level)
   • Animal Sciences (ASCI 043, 104, 122, 141, 142, 151,or 152)
   • Computer Science (any except CS 002, 003, 005, 014, or 015)
