He performed pioneering work on brain substrates of emotion, and established the direction for a whole field. Key Scholarly Interests: Brain substrates of learning, memory, emotion, and cardiovascular regulation.

Publication Highlights: Has published in Science, Journal of Neuroscience; Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Behavior; Brain Research, Neuroscience; Behavioral Brain Research, Physiology of Behavior; Journal of the Autonomic Nervous System; Brain Research Bulletin. He has also written many book chapters in edited books.

Teaching/Research/Memberships: Numerous courses taught concerning the brain's contribution to behavior, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research sponsored over the years by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute of Neurological and Communica-tive Disorders and Stroke, National Science Foundation, and the American Heart Association. Member of Society for Neuroscience (past chair, Chapters Committee); American Association for the Advancement of Science; Chair, Vermont Chapter, Society for Neuro-science.

Other Professional Experience:Member, National Institute of Mental Health grant review study sections; external referee/Editorial board member of numerous journals devoted to neuroscience research.

Awards and Honors: : National Institute of Mental Health Research Scientist Career Development Award, University Scholar, UVM; Dean's Lecture Award, College of Arts and Sciences, UVM; Pavlovian Society Distinguished Investigator Award.
