B.A., St. Joseph's University (1980); Ph.D. Harvard University (1987).

Professor Gause's teaching and research interests are in international relations and Middle Eastern politics. He is the author of a number of articles and two books, Oil Monarchies: Domestic and Security Challenges in the Arab Gulf States, (1994) and Saudi-Yemini Relations: Domestic Structures and Foreign Influence (1990). Before joining the Political Science Department at UVM, he was a member of the faculty of Columbia University.
