Professor Bryan teaches courses in American politics, state government and democracy (a research seminar). He is the author of several books on state and local politics, including Yankee Politics in Rural Vermont; Politics in the Rural States; The Vermont Papers: Recreating Democracy on a Human Scale, and Real Democracy: The New England Town Meeting and How It Works. He has published extensively in other venues including journals, chapters in edited volumes and books of political humor. He maintains an ambitious public speaking calendar and is a trustee of the Vermont Historical Society, a member of the Center for Research on Vermont, and a regular commentator on Vermont Public Radio. Professor Bryan is a past recipient of the George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award and the Kroepsch-Maurice Award for Excellent in Teaching.
