UVM Grounds Crew

During the 2007 Valentine's Day Blizzard, Rose Leland and her crew went above and beyond in opening the roadways to maintain access for our emergency vehicles. There was a short period of time that evening when we the number of police, fire and EMS vehicles stuck on campus caused me to take pause. Rose and her team saved the day. They kept the flow of access to and from our offices to the major arteries on campus open and safe for travel in the most difficult of circumstances.

In March of this year, our police officers were dispatched to one of our residence halls for a welfare check on a student. His friends hadn't seen him for some time and were concerned for his well-being. Officers Tetrault and Coyner located him in his room, barely conscious and clearly ill. It became quickly evident that this student required immediate life-saving attention which would not have come if it weren't for Travis Fryer, Alex Bacon, Greg Schondlemeier, Matt Medford, Eric Smith, and William Marks. For their concern of a friend's welfare, concern that saved the life of a friend in need, it is our honor to present them with this Certificate of Recognition.

Lisa MacCluskey

As the Special Events Coordinator for Sodexho's Catering Department, Lisa MacCluskey has been the “go to” person for all our catering needs. She and her colleagues fed 70-plus investigators during the investigation into MGQ's murder. For her outstanding service to Police Services and her sense of humor when asked to accommodate us at a moment's notice

As a key member of the Conference & Event Services Staff, Carol Wheel is an important alley in navigating our space needs on campus. She and Joyce Ticehurst communicate almost daily, and always she has a smile on her face and a friendly manner about her. For her outstanding service to Police Services with the R25 and special event planning we're pleased to present her this Certificate of Recognition.

Dorothea Brauer

Dot Brauer has devoted hours of her time assisting us with our officer recruitment process. She has been available for interviews whenever asked and has contributed much in the way of helping us identify the best candidates possible to service our campus. Daniel Austin

The Campus CCTV system has turned out to be one of the most complicated technology installations we've faced. Dan Austin joined the CatCard team to manage this installation and has been an incredible asset to Police Services. He's there when we need him and always with a smile. Al Turgeon

Vice President Gower assigned the task of emergency operations and planning to a man who has had more than two decades of leadership in the US Army. Al Turgeon came to his post after leading our ROTC program in Military Studies. He has become a strong support of public safety on campus and a valuable friend to Police Services. For this outstanding service, I'm pleased to present him this Certificate of Recognition.

From event assistance to security on our buses, we have come to rely on the services of Green Mt. Security in ways that far exceeded our initial plans. This year's transition to a new university-wide financial and HR software solution has been challenging for department heads. AVP Ted Winfield and his team, including Josey Mercure and Stephanie Dion, have spent hours attending to Police Services' budgeting needs and accounting systems. They have been instrumental to our financial modeling and gone far beyond the call of duty for us. Given this outstanding support and service we are honored to present AVP Winfield this Certificate of Recognition

Furthering efforts to provide better Security on UVM Campus for our community and the public. Both these individuals have set up and installed Security Camera's systems on campus that enable us to monitor and illegal activities which support our mission. They are also most willing to assist in any way they can. 2006

For his efforts in helping identify and apprehend several thieves who were stealing from university offices in broad daylight. Upon recognizing the description Steve Theriault called Police Services. We were able to make an apprehension which led to the solving of several crimes throughout Chittenden County. It is with honor and privilege we award you this certificate of recognition.

April 14 could have been a very different day for the President's Office and Police Services had it not been for Darlene Nelligan. When faced with an early morning occupation of the wing by student protestors, she simply closed the door and engaged the dead bolt. Problem solved. We could not be successful in either the administrative processes of hiring and recruitment, or the strategic identification of candidates without Kathryn Friedman. the other third in the holy triumvirate, CSES validates the work we do by ensuring follow through, treatment and sanctions as appropriate. Of the many reasons that our police officers choose to police our campus, is the knowledge that our judicial process works for all the right reasons. It's the knowledge that CSES is able to bring to bear the full resources of our university to the development and support of our students. Burlington Free Press

On October 6, 2003, a UVM student reported his laptop and camcorder stolen from the Bailey/Howe Library. On October 7, 2003 Mr. Bessette reported to Burlington Police that a fellow employee at the ree Press had talked about a camcorder he had stolen from the B/H Library. Mr. Bessetteís information led to the recovery of the items and arrest of two people on the charge of Grand Larceny.

Officer Michael Lavoie,
Williston Police Department

On September 25, 2003, Officer Lavoie assisted UVM Police Services in the search for a suspect involved in the distribution of drugs on campus. With his assistance, we were able to develop address information and contacts whereby enabling us to serve a search warrant in a timely manner. This investigation uncovered important information leading to further drug interdiction efforts.

These concerned university citizens assisted UVM Police with reporting, describing and catching two subjects involved in a computer theft in the HSRF building in April of 2003. Quick thinking and reporting on their part led to the two subjects being arrested for larceny and the recovery of the universityís stolen property. One of the suspects apprehended has since been charged with murder in an unrelated case in another jurisdiction.

Burlington Police Department

For assisting the UVM Department of Police Services in joining and sharing the New World Computer System CAD/RMS. This saved the university a substantial amount of money and resources and ensured the close working relations between the agencies continue as we share important public safety data and analysis capabilities.

These students called Police Services when they witnessed a man smashing a picture frame in Billings Marsh Lounge. They were able to give an accurate description; details of what happened; and in what direction he left. The subject was apprehended and trespassed from campus.

For their assistance in calling Police Services after witnessing domestic assault in the Given parking lot. They lent assistance to the female victim while Police Services was able to subsequently make an arrest for domestic assault.
