Department of Physics
This intensive summer program focussing on complex materials takes place on the campus of the University of Vermont and is funded through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program of the National Science Foundation. Undergraduate students from all institutions are invited to apply to participate in the summer 2014 program. Research awards include a $5000 summer stipend, free housing and some funding for travel to UVM, as needed.
All continuing undergraduate students (i.e. those who will also be students next year) may apply to the UVM Summer Program on Complex Materials. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent US residents.
An application must include the following:
Two letters of recommendation. It's best if they come from professors that know you well, but this is not required. Have your references place their letters in sealed envelopes, sign across the seal and return the sealed envelopes to you. You will then send the recommendation letters along with the rest of your application. Please do not have your letters sent separately.
Your most recent transcript. An unofficial transcript is fine. If you are accepted into the program, you will be asked to have your college send an official transcript.
Put all the application materials in a single envelope and send it to:

The selection committee will be looking for talented, hard-working, enthusiastic students for participation in the UVM Summer Program. Supporting materials, such as results from prior research activities, etc., may also be included in your application if you wish.
The 2014 UVM Summer Program runs from June 2 through August 1, 2014. These dates are somewhat flexible, depending on a student's particular circumstances.Things to do in Burlington Student feedback from 2012
