The following administrative special instructions pertain to Physical Education Basic Activity courses for Fall Semester 2008
All Physical Education Basic Activity classes will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.
The proficiency level for the skills of our courses are indicated by the following number designations:
1-2 Beginner
3-4 Intermediate
5-6 Advanced
1-4 Course accomodates and teaches skills from level 1 through 4
Students enrolled in the wrong skill level may be asked to change to a different section if possible.
Please read these special instructions for Sailing, Mountain Biking, Moo Gong Do, Aikido, Bowling, SCUBA Diving, Rock Climbing, and Weight Training
BOWLING
The first class meeting for all BOWLING classes will be held in The Hall of Fame Room, Patrick Gymnasium (located under the main front lobby of the Patrick Gym) on the day and time the first scheduled class meeting of each section. The first scheduled class meeting will be either Tuesday September 2, Wednesday, September 3, or Thursday, September 4, 2008. All other classes during the semester will meet at Yankee Lanes Bowling Center, Colchester, VT. Students must provide their own transportation, and sign a transportation waiver.
SCUBA DIVING
For all sections, Diving classes meet in the pool at the time listed. Lecture classes meet in 110 Kalkin Hall, Wednesdays 7:00-9:00 PM. The FIRST class meeting for ALL sections will be the lecture on Wednesday September 3, 2008 (no pool work the first week). Students may not enroll in SCUBA if they have a history of asthma.
SAILINGAll Sailing classes will meet at The Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center, 1 Lake Street, Burlington, Vermont. This location is on the Burlington Waterfront. Follow College Street toward Lake Champlain to the Burlington Bike Path. At the Bike Path, walk north about 1/3 mile. The first class meeting is at the Sailing Center. Students must provide their own transportation, and sign a transportation waiver.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
The first class meeting for Mountain Biking will meet in the Gutterson Rink Ice Skating changing room (located at the west end of the ice rink), on the date and time of the first scheduled class for each section. All remaining classes during the semester will meet at the The Catamount Family Center, Williston, Vermont. Students must provide their own transportation, and sign a transportation waiver. Mountain bikes may be rented at the Center, or student may bring their own.
The first class meeting for ROCK CLIMBING will be held in the Fitness Center Lobby at he climbing wall on the day and time of the first scheduled class meeting for each section. The first scheduled class meeting will be either Monday, September 8 or Wednesday, September 3, 2008. All remaining classes will be held at Petra Cliffs Climbing Center, Briggs St., Burlington, Vt. Students must provide their own transportation to the Climbing Center, and sign a transportation waiver.
All weight training classes will meet in the Fitness Center. All students must bring their UVM-ID to every class.
Students in this class are required to war a Gi. Course instructors will be able to answer any questions about selecting and purchasing a Gi. Moo Gong Do will meet in the Fitness Center and all students must bring their UVM-ID to every class.
The first class for AIKIDO will be held in the main front lobby of the Patrick Gymnasiusm on the date and time of the first scheduled class meeting of this class. The first scheduled class meeting will be September 2, 2008. All remaining classes will be held at Aikido of Champlain Valley, 257 Pine Street, Burlington, VT Students must provide their own transportation to Aikido of Champlain Valley and sign a transportation waiver.
VARSITY SPORTS (PEAC 000) All varsity athletes may register for Credit on-line prior to the add/drop deadline.
CLUB SPORT (PEAC 005) All club sport athletes must obtain their club advisor's signature on an add/drop form in order to register for Club Sport Credit. All Club Sport athletes will receive either an "S" for Satisfactory or "U" for Unsatisfactory as a grade.
CREDIT BY EXAM. Students who wish to challenge a course by Credit by Exam SHOULD NOT register for the course. Students interested in Credit by Exam should come to the Fitness Center in Gutterson to register. All Credit by Exam information is on the Physical Education web site.
