1. The following administrative special instructions pertain to Physical Education Basic Activity courses for Spring Semester 2010.
2. All Physical Education Basic Activity classes will begin on Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
3. CREDIT BY EXAM: PEAC is no longer offering credit by exam.
4. The proficiency levels for the skills of our courses are indicated by the following number designations:
1-2 Beginner
3-4 Intermediate
5-6 Advanced
1-4 Course accomodates and teaches skills from level 1 through 4
Students enrolled in the wrong skill level may be asked to change to a different section if possible.
5. Please read these special instructions for the following activity classes: Downhill Skiing, Snowboarding, SCUBA, Bowling, Aikido, Rock Climbing, Cross Country Skiing and Group Fitness.
6. Students enrolled in DOWNHILL SKIING & SNOWBOARDING (PEAC 086 & 087) should report to Patrick Gymnasium at 12:30 on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, the first day of class.
The first class meeting in Patrick Gymnasium for Skiing and Snowboarding classes is for administrative and organizational purposes only, and should last approximately 1 hour. All students enrolled in Skiing/Snowboarding classes are required to attend the first class meeting in Patrick Gym. At the first class meeting, all students will learn about important ability grouping, and how lessons will be conducted. Students will not engage in any physical activity at this meeting and should attend this meeting in regular school clothes. Students should not bring any skiing or snowboarding equipment to the first meeting.
After the first class meeting, all subsequent Skiing/Snowboarding classes for the remainder of the course will be taught by the Stowe Ski School Staff at the Little Spruce Ski Area, Stowe, Vermont. Note: A special fee is required to enroll in all Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding courses, even if a student already has a Stowe Ski Pass.
7. SCUBA: The first class meeting for ALL sections will be the lecture on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, (no pool work the first week of classes). All diving classes meet in the pool at the time listed. Lecture classes meet in 110 Kalkin Hall, Wednesdays 6:15-9:15 PM. A history of asthma could preclude students from being allowed to enroll in SCUBA Diving class.
8. BOWLING: The first class meeting for all BOWLING classes will be held in the Hall of Fame Room of Patrick Gymnasium (located directly under the main front lobby of Patrick Gymnasium), on the date and time for the first scheduled class meeting of each class. There are stairs on each side of the main front lobby of the Patrick Gym that lead to the Hall of Fame Room. The first scheduled class meeting will be either: Tuesday, January 19, Wednesday, January 20 or Thursday, January 21, 2010. All remaining classes will be held at Spare Time Bowling Center, Colchester, Vermont. All students must provide their own transportation to the Bowling Center, and sign a transportation waiver.
9. CROSS COUNTRY SKIING: The first class meeting for all CROSS COUNTRY SKIING classes will be held in the Gutterson Ice Rink Skate Changing Room (located at the northeast corner of the ice rink) on the date and time of the first scheduled class meeting for each class. The first scheduled class meeting will either be Wednesday, January 20 or Thursday, January 21. All students enrolled in Cross Country Skiing classes are required to attend the first class meeting. The first class meeting in the Gutterson Ice Rink Skate Changing room will be for administrative and organizational purposes only, and should last approximately 45 minutes. At the first class meeting, all students will complete paperwork, learn about important organizational information regarding transportation, and talk about the actual Cross Country Skiing classes. Students will not engage in any physical activity at this meeting, and should attend this meeting in regular school clothes. Students should not bring any skiing equipment to the first class meeting. All remaining Cross Country Skiing classes will be held at The Catamount Family Center, Williston, Vermont. Students must provide their own transportation to The Catamount Family Center, and sign a transportation waiver.
10. ROCK CLIMBING: The first class meeting for ROCK CLIMBING classes will be held in the Fitness Center Lobby on the date and time of the first scheduled class meeting for each class. The first scheduled class meeting will either be: Wednesday, January 20 or Monday, January 26. All remaining classes will be held at Petra Cliffs Climbing Center, Burlington, Vermont. Students must provide their own transportation to the Climbing Center and sign a transporation waiver.
11. AIKIDO: The first class meeting for AIKIDO classes will be held in the main front lobby of Patrick Gymnasium on the date and time of the first scheduled class meeting. The first scheduled class meeting will be Tuesday, January 19. All remaining classes will be held at Aikido of Champlain Valley, Burlington,Vermont. Students must provide their own transportation to Aikido of Champlain Valley, and sign a transportation waiver. Additionally, all students will be required to purchase a Gi, which is not included in the class fee.
12. GROUP FITNESS: All students who register for this PEAC 199 section will also be registered for a $65.00 group fitness pass. This pass will give registered students access to all Campus Recreation group fitness classes throughout the entire semester, even after the class requirement has been met. Students will be automatically registered for the pass, and the fee will be charged to the student's Campus Recreation account. An invoice will be emailed to the student prior to the start of the semester.
13. CLUB SPORT CREDIT (PEAC 005): Club sport athletes must obtain their club advisor's signature on a add/drop form in order to register for Club Sport Credit. All Club Sport athletes will receive either an "S" or "U" as a grade for PEAC 005.
14. VARSITY SPORT CREDIT (PEAC 000): All varsity athletes should register for Varsity Sport Credit (PEAC 000) on-line prior to the add/drop deadline.
