Four focus groups will be conducted with parents of children with disabilities and professionals to identify barriers to leadership opportunities and supports needed by parent leaders.


A national survey will also be distributed to identify barriers to leadership opportunities and necessary supports for parent leaders.


A core curriculum on collaborative leadership and policy evaluation will be developed and delivered to parent leaders from six states through a year long intensive delivery process.


Internships related to leadership and policy evaluation will be established. Local mentors will be recruited to work with parent leaders so they may apply skills learned in leadership and policy evaluation.

Materials and effective model components will be disseminated throughout the country to parent centers and parent membership organizations forcused on children with disabilities and their families. Research activities will be implemented to identify the most effective components of the model.
