Winter Grazing

The Center's Pasture Program, with partners the UVM Plant & Soil Science Department, Highfields Institute and regional farm leaders, is embarking on a three-year project to increase and improve season extension and winter grazing techniques, as well as document soil quality changes under these techniques.

Nine dairy farms in three counties have been sampled to determine starting forage and soil quality. In early January, 2009 discussion groups will take place with the core project participants. Regular regional discussion groups will start in early spring.
