John N. Evans, Ph.D.
Interim Vice President for Research
Dr. John Evans is Interim Vice President for Research at the University of Vermont and Professor in the College of Medicine. He also serves as President of the Vermont Technology Council, an organization that works to foster technology-enabled companies in Vermont by integrating the efforts of the private, public and academic sectors.
Dr. Evans earned his doctorate in 1976 from the University of Florida College of Medicine and has had a distinguished career as a biomedical researcher with numerous publications and honors including being named an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association. He has also served as Dean and Executive Dean of the College of Medicine with responsibility for the operations and strategy of the College with a budget in excess of $125 million per year and with over 400 faculty and more than 500 staff.
Currently, Dr. Evans serves on the Board of Directors of Vermont Mutual Insurance Company, the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies, and the Vermont Technology Council. He is a past member of the Board of Fletcher Allen Healthcare and was Chair of the Board of the Practice Plan for the Clinical Faculty of the University. He has also served on the editorial boards of a number of professional journals, including the American Review of Respiratory Disease and the American Review of Respiratory Disease.
