TRAINING

PICIA Base Belayed Climbing Instructor
This is a basic climbing instructor certification course. Content includes: site management & assessment, group management, belay & climbing instruction, top rope anchor construction & basic assisted rescues. Completion of Rock SMAC (or proof of equivalent instruction) required. Mandatory for all UVMOC rock instructors.

Dates: April 20 & 21, May 8, 9 & 10 (final assessment)

ACA River Kayaking Instructor (Basic Certification)
This is a mandatory certification for basic swift water (Class I & II) tandem canoeing instruction. Content includes: Stroke review and instruction, group management, hydrology & rescue basics.

Limit: 6; Price:$400 (subsidy available for Catayak & OC Leaders)

Level I AIARE Avalanche Awareness Certification
A must have for developing side or backcountry skiers and riders. Content includes: terrain assessment, personal & group management, transceiver use and avalanche rescue execution.

Dates: February 27 (5-8pm), February 28 & April 1

SOLO Wilderness First Aid (WFA)
This 16-hour introduction to wilderness first aid is essential for any UVM students intending on leading trips for the OC, Wilderness TREK, or working in the field as a trip leader this summer or beyond.

Dates: April 18 & 19
Limit: 18; Price:$185
