It can also be a lot of work deciding where to go, lining up proper paperwork/documentation and ensuring that you receive academic credit for your studies. Let us help you get started. Consider the following general timeline
12-15 months before studying abroad:
- Complete your iAbroad account
- Complete "The First Step Registration" to indicate your interest in study abroad
- Obtain academic advising
- Complete Setting Goals and Priorities Questionnaire in iAbroad
- Attend a "Getting Started" advising session
- Apply for or renew your U.S. Passport
- Confirm your UVM eligibility to study abroad
- Confirm your understanding about different study abroad program types, their financial and transfer credit implications
- Continue researching study abroad programs
- Meet with a regional study abroad advisor
5-8 months before studying abroad:
- Draft a UVM budget sheet for your top program(s)
- Apply to study abroad program
- Research the visa requirements for the country where you want to study
- Receive an offer or apply to another program
After acceptance into a study abroad program:
- Accept your offer to participate and fulfill the program/university's enrollment requirments
- Apply for your visa to study in your host country
- Verify your health insurance covers you while abroad
- Make an appointment for health consultations and any required immunizations
- Finalize your UVM budget sheet
- Get UVM approval for your studies through iAbroad
- Enroll in the Overseas Study Program academic course (OSSP)
- Attend UVM pre-departure orientation
- Register with International SOS
- Register with your host country local country local consulate or embassy
- Pack with intention, taking entry documents, contact info, etc.
