UVM Community Member Involvement
UVM's international students currently represent 54 countries. The Office of International Education welcomes involvement in a number of ways.
Catamount Cultural Connections - International Buddy and Mentorship Program
Want to know more about another culture? Like the idea of helping a new student get to know UVM and Burlington? Consider joining the Catamount Cutural Connections program! Through the Catamount Cutural Connections program, American students or faculty/staff are matched with international students.
International Mentorship Program
Faculty and staff are matched with a group of 2-3 international undergraduate or graduate students who are seeking connections outside of the student community. Mentors can request to co-mentor the group with another faculty or staff member. Mentor/mentee groups are expected to meet four times over the course of the semester (1-2 hours per month). The Office of International Education will provide a kick-off event and occasional (optional) events. Other meetings are at the participants’ discretion but could include dinner, a walk, or just grabbing coffee on campus. Interested? Email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up.
International Buddy Program
These student-to-student pairs make their own arrangements to meet with an expectation of you meeting at least once or twice per month. It's a great way to learn about another culture, especially if you are thinking about studying abroad or are looking to continue the intercultural experiences that you had while studying abroad. Interested in participating?

- International Students should visit the OIE to meet with an advisor about the program
Be an Emergency Language Translator
Negotiating a personal crisis or emergency can be difficult for any student. Add to that stress unfamiliarity with U.S. culture and communicating in a second language, and a difficult situation may become overwhelming. On behalf of a student whose native language is not English, the Dean of Students Office, Campus Victim's Advocate or Police Services might call for help with translation. Interested?
