Abstract 1990-1999
Mayer JA, Solomon LJ. Breast self-examination skill and frequency: A review. Ann Behav Med. 1992;14(3):189-196.For breast self-examination (BSE) to reach its potential as a screening method, it must be performed skillfully and regularly. This review examines both measurement and intervention issues relevant to BSE skill and adherence, including appropriate criteria for determining BSE skill, training approaches for generalizing BSE skill, potential problems with self-reported BSE frequency, and interventions for encouraging long-term BSE frequency. Recommendations for future research on the specific topic areas are made.
