The impact of job loss can be both psychologically and physically harmful. Research suggests that the anticipation of unemployment and the early period of termination are particularly stressful. This article describes some considerations addressed by a consulting firm when developing and implementing a small-scale lay-off procedure aimed at facilitating rapid adjustment to the stress of job loss.
