Reports an error in the original article by R. H. Secker- Walker et al (American Journal of Public Health, 2000, vol. No. 90(6), 940-946). On page 495, Table 4 incorrectly presented the proportions of smokers and recent ex-smokers who were aware of Breathe Easy, an organized smoking cessation program for females, and who could name the program. The corrected table is given. (The following abstract of this article appeared in record 2001-06655-001.) A multicomponent intervention was implemented in 2 counties, to help women quit smoking. Through community coalitions and task forces, support groups, a videotape illustrating the process of quitting smoking, and free smoking cessation classes were made available to help women quit smoking. Also, primary care physicians, dentists, dental hygenists, and public health personnel were trained in smoking cessation interventions. Assessment was carried out pre-and post-intervention using telephone surveys in the intervention counties and 2 matched comparison counties. In the intervention counties, the odds of a woman being a smoker after 4 yrs of program activities were 0.88; women smokers' perceptions of community norms about women smoking were significantly more negative; and quit rate in the past 5 yrs was significantly greater....
