Applicants must have the equivalent of a Bachelors Degree in a biological science, neuroscience, chemistry, physics, engineering, psychology, mathematics, communication sciences or computer science. We recommend that students have taken and received better than average grades in calculus, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biopsychology, neuroscience or biology. Research experience will be favorably considered.
GRE General Test scores are required, and scores on the Subject Test in Biology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, or Psychology are optional. The GRE Institution Code for UVM is 3920 (note that there is no additional code for our program). Applicants whose native language is not English must submit scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 100 to be considered for NGP.
Applicants must submit three letters of reference. We prefer letters from individuals who know you well and who can attest to your abilities to work independently in an academic setting. Letters from research advisors or supervisors are highly desirable.
NGP provides support for students for the first two years, after which, the responsibility for support transitions to the advisor and/or department, usually through funding on a research grant or fellowship. The stipend in NGP is $24,000 annually. The program also covers tuition, fees and health insurance. For more information regarding financial support, please contact the program directly.
