Center For Health and Wellbeing

Besides being a full-service medical clinic, the UVM Center for Health and Wellbeing provides a wide range of counseling services, health education programs and referral services. This site provides information on alcoholism, nutrition services, travel health, conflict resolution and emergency procedures. I would HIGHLY recommend everyone check out their information on how to recognize and help those under mental stress or who are struggling with depression and other mental health issues.

Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness Practice Center

With today's busy world, few have time to stop and breathe easier. Stress can be detrimental to students suffering from various mental illnesses as well as those with learning difficulties. The Mindfulness Practice Center is dedicated totransforming anger, confusion and distress into peace, joy and understanding through awareness of the world around us; and through the practice of meditation and other calming activities. This service is free to all UVM faculty, students and staff, but it is strongly encouraged that you call or register first, as space can fill up quickly! The website also includes basic background to mindfulness practice & exercises you can practice on your own. If the groups are full, they also have a large database of off-campus mindfulness groups you should check out!

Police Patch

UVM Police Services

While addressing situations before they get out of hand is the best way to handle mental illness, sometimes, due to various conditions or stresses, a student may feel that they are beyond help. If a student talks about committing suicide, starts giving away prized possessions or other indications that they are planning to harm themselves, contact the counseling center right away! If the student is aggressive, hostile, unmanageable or is dangerously close to harming themselves, call Police Services (911 or 656-3473). This should be used as a last resort, as it circumvents more permanent treatment and the student will very likely be subject to disciplinary action. For more instructions on how to recognize threatening behavior and what you can do to help, go to the emergency information page.
