Violin and piano recital, Thomas Read and David Feurzeig
Time: 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Description:
Music for Violin and Piano, from Mozart to Pärt
UVM Violin and Composition Professor Emeritus Thomas L. Read is joined by his successor, composer/pianist David Feurzeig, to perform a dazzling array of violin and piano music from the 18th century to the present. Mozart’s scintillating Sonata in B-flat, K. 454, is sandwiched by two meditative works by the visionary Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Pärt, Fratres and Spiegel im Spiegel. The concert concludes with the rollicking and transcendental Sonata No. 2 by the American modernist pioneer Charles Ives.

Jazz Vocal Ensemble and Combo Concert
Time: 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Description: The UVM Jazz Vocal Ensemble and Tuesday Jazz Combo will present ‘Mood Swings: a suite for jazz choir and narration’ on Wednesday, April 24th at 7:30 in the Recital Hall of the UVM Music Building. The suite of seven songs features the music of saxophonist/composer Charlie Parker, the improvisations of vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, and the lyrics of vocalist/lyricist Eddie Jefferson. The piece takes its title from ‘Moody’s Mood For Love’ and ‘Parker’s Mood’, two of the more well known lyrical adaptations that Eddie Jefferson made of Charlie Parker’s music. Through interpretations of jazz standards such as ‘How High The Moon/Ornithology’, ‘Nature Boy’ and ‘All of Me’ by vocal soloists and choir, the suite tells the story of two star-crossed lovers whose romance is threatened by their wandering hearts, and the wandering mystic who comes to their aid. In addition to Parker's music, the performance features tunes by Eden Abhez, Walter Donaldson, Morgan Lewis and James Moody, and arrangements by Tom Cleary, Kirby Shaw, Michele Weir and Nina Simone. The evening also features original narration by UVM Romance Languages Professor Tina Escaja, vocal solos by UVM students Brett Pellegrino, Keira Tachibana, Lizzy Carlson and A.J. Banach, and is musically co-directed by UVM Jazz Faculty members Tom Cleary and Amber deLaurentis.
