The music major concentration is a concentration offered within the College of Education and Social Services rather than the College of Arts and Sciences. The degree presents an opportunity for students in the College of Education and Social Services who enjoy music to complete a specific set of courses in music while pursuing their degree/major in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences or Physical Education.
A taped or live audition of the prospective student's performance skills is required prior to admission into this program. Only a satisfactory audition will allow the student to begin this concentration.
Note: The Music Major Concentration does not lead to certification/licensing as a music specialist. A co-advisor in the Music Department is strongly recommended for all students pursuing this concentration.
The B.S. in Music Education program has been designed to meet all competencies required for an individual to be recommended for licensure to teach upon completion of the program; the Music Major Conentration is more of a major/concentration without culminating in a teaching license.
To obtain a music major concentration, students will complete a minimum of 36 hours in music credits in addition to their other course of study.
