Patricia Riley, D.M.A., Associate Professor of Music Education. Dr. Riley is a versatile educator, with teaching experience in instrumental, vocal, and general music at the college, high school, middle school, and elementary school levels. Prior to coming to UVM, she served for four years on the music education faculty at The Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam. Her public school experience includes twelve years in the Poultney (VT) School District, and eight years in school districts in New Jersey.
In addition to her long affiliation with the nationally acclaimed Vermont MIDI Project (an online music composition mentoring collaborative), Dr. Riley has spent time in India, Mexico, and China, where she has conducted research on music education, and supervised students in Faculty Led Programs Abroad. She has presented papers at numerous international, national, regional, and state conferences, including the 2012 MayDay Group Colloquium, the 2012 National Association for Music Eduction (NAfME) Biennial National Conference, the 2011 College Music Society National Conference, the 2011 Symposium on Music Teacher Education, the Technology Institute for Music Education 2011 National Conference, and the 2011 International Symposium on Assessment in Music Education. She has published in Music Education Research, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Research and Issues in Music Education, Visions of Research in Music Education, The College Music Society Symposium, The Vermont Music Educator, Teaching Music and has numerous published book chapters. Dr. Riley’s research interests include student music composition, cultural studies, technology, and assessment.
