4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 Lafayette Hall L108 University of Vermont Free & Open to the Public Dr. Elizabeth Barham is nationally and internationally known for her research on labels of origin, or geographical indications, as catalysts for rural revitalization, cultural heritage tourism and regional economic development. She is a rural sociologist and Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the University of Arkansas. She has researched GI systems in France, Spain, Portugal and Quebec, Canada. Her current work, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, focuses on developing an inventory of U.S. GIs and assisting U.S. GI producers in forming a national association. Dr. Barham is visiting Vermont as part of the Vermont Agency of Agriculture Taste of Place Initiative. She will speak about her American Origins Products work and opportunities for place-based marketing Vermont.
