Dr. Phillips' career and research focus is on fostering community and regional well-being including the use of community indicator systems to encourage desired quality of life outcomes. As a specialist in community and economic development, Phillips holds dual professional certifications in economic development (CEcD) and urban and regional planning (AICP) with over 20 years' experience with private, public, and non-profit organizations. Actively involved with professional development education and community service, she is Editor of Community Development: Journal of the Community Development Society; the Immediate Past Chair of the Economic Development Division (EDD) of the American Planning Association; and Board Member of the national Community Development Council. Honors include serving as the 2006 Fulbright Ulster Policy Fellow in Northern Ireland. She is currently working on her eighth book; prior works include Community Concept Marketing (Praeger), Introduction to Community Development (Routledge), and Community Indicators Measuring Systems (Ashgate). She is on leave from Arizona State University where she was professor and director of the School of Community Resources and Development and is now serving as a visiting professor at SUNY Plattsburgh's School of Business and Economics.
