Glenn McRae has spent the last 25 years creating and implementing programs and initiatives in Vermont that build capacity and empower people to more fully participate and engage in their community, their enterprises and their government. Building resources to support an effective workforce in Vermont’s nonprofit sector has occupied much of the last twenty years. In 2011 he joined the UVM Transportation Research Center as Outreach Manager focusing his efforts on the needs of a 21st century workforce in the transportation sector. He served as the Executive Director of the Intervale Center, a steward of a 350 acre center in Burlington that develops farm- and land-based enterprises building community food systems. He was the Director of Public Policy Development at the Snelling Center for Government where he developed a graduate internship program in partnership with the MPA Program. Glenn McRae has played an active role in Vermont public policy issues for the last two decades. He has been a leader in the nonprofit field, working with the Vermont Community Foundation from 1989-2000 where he oversaw the development and growth of capacity building programs for nonprofits, and the promotion of nonprofits as a distinct sector in Vermont leading to the founding of the Vermont Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations. He was the founding Executive Director of both the Association of Vermont Recyclers and Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility.

He has also worked independently on environmental policy making and systems change in regard to the health care industry. He is a consultant to the UN Development Program on a seven nation demonstration project [] promoting environment compliance in the health sector. He has also consulted with the World Health Organization, World Bank Group, and Health Care Without Harm International.

He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the Union Institute & University, and has been an adjunct faculty at the University of Vermont, St. Michael's College, The Union Institute and University and the Community College of Vermont.
