Introducing New ConceptsIntroduce new concepts after a review of the supporting material. For example, if you are going to introduce spiccato bowing, begin with a review of bow hold, detaché and martelé bowing. Introduce one new concept at a time. If you are introducing spiccato bowing, avoid introducing a new left hand technique at the same time. Break the concept down into its component parts. For example, spiccato involves a controlled bounce, so practice in groups of 2, 4 , 6 , 8 (see the tutorial on introducing spiccato) before trying to play an entire passage using spiccato bowing.
