Strings

Strings are available in three different compoisitions: Metal wrapped around a metal core, Metal wrapped over a perlon or other synthetic core, and natural gut. Today most professional string players use synthetic core strings. These match the sound and feel of natural gut strings, but are more stable in pitch and produce more sound.

Gut strings, made of natural sheep intestines, are the original strings used since the sixteenth century. These strings are still commonly used in baroque or historical performance. Metal strings are used in many types of performance, most frequently in traditional or folk music.
