Elliott's new favorite phrase is "no mama". It doesn't sound so bad until you consider his tone of voice. By the
end of the day, it's hard not to take it personally, I'm so sick of hearing it. I think he knows this, and almost
sing-songs it. He's starting to want to do things himself, and he takes my hands off of his toys so he can play
with them without my meddling. Welcome to year 2!
He played with Jasmine this week.. they spend a long time running around in circles and chasing each other.
Both kids LOVE peek-a-boo, so they gave us a break by finding each other instead of us! Jasmine's neighbor
has a swingset with a ladder, which both kids had a blast on. Elliott now knows (for better and worse) how
to climb up a ladder on his own.
Elliott's very verbal in the car now, pointing out steeples, fans, all kinds of trucks and cars, motorcycles,
people on bikes, and every moo and neigh we pass. It makes the trip more fun, actually, now that he can talk.
Driving in the dark is tough though, since there's nothing to see. We listen to music most of the time, which
helps. He still says "bye bye bike" instead of "byebye lady" - or "byebye truck" instead of "byebye man". It's
the object that impresses him, not the person. At least he's honest.
He's going through a white food phase.. noodles with romano are his favorite. he'll eat spinach nuggets, but he's
not keen on most other veggies. he'll maybe eat a bite or two, but that's it - even broccoli, his former
favorite. he'll snarf "protein" (soy based stuff) and bread/cracker/pasta/rice products (even sushi). Sigh.
He does still eat fruit, but veggies are low on his list.
We helped Tracy get some annuals in the garden Friday. He had a blast squirting the hose all over the place
(including all over dad's pants - oops!). He's still not impressed with our "please don't walk on the garden
plants" rule, but we're working on it. Even after spending all morning playing with Jamie with buckets of water
and toys, he was still much more interested in Tracy's watering can than anything else we were doing. He was
quite frustrated he couldn't lift it himself, and sort of wanted us to help, and sort of wanted us to bug off.
It's tough being a toddler.
He has a really sweet disposition, these days, if you don't mind me saying. He says thank you all the time, and
sometimes remembers to say please and your welcome. He gives hugs to almost anything and anyone (particularly
stuffed animals) and says hi or hello to almost anyone who will make eye contact with him. He loves to point out
and talk about people and animals. He can hear a dog a mile away, and can spot a horse (a neigh) in near
darkness. His interest in animals is second only to his interest in trucks and power tools (and trains and
airplanes and balls - ok, so maybe it's 6th).
