As the weather gets warmer, Elliott's resumed his obsession with going "out-died". He played with our friend Jamie on one of the first warm days.. they both splashed in the water coming down from our leaky gutter (I knew we hadn't fixed it for a reason!), made mud soup concoctions, spayed hose water into the snow to bore holes, and generally got completely soaked and covered in dirt. A fun time was had by all, though I didn't get any photos of the playing (our camera would not have survived the festivities).

We also had a fun friend party this week, complete with cheese and chocolate fondu (eaten separately, of course). Elliott had a blast playing with Jasmine, leaving us adults to actually sit down and talk. I almost didn't know what to do with myself.

Elliott's obsession with play-dough is waning, but when it was at its peak, we would make him different shapes.. so he knows "yube" (cube), "ball", "dohne" (cone), quare (square), ehcow (circle), etc. He enjoys pointing to shapes when he sees them in real life, and has a grand old time running from cone to cone (the caution wet floor signs) when we're in the grocery store. He was thrilled to finally get his own personal first ice cream cone. He loved the way it slipped around in his hands like soap - "yipowee doo dah, doap!".

Our friends Kathy and John came up, and Elliott had a great time basking in the extra attention. John taught him about how giraffes like to eat Banyan trees (ok, well, maybe he taught me that, but eventually it'll trickle down to Elliott, right?). He survived the longest restaurant experience of his life with no serious melt-downs.. we all took turns walking around talking with him, letting him climb the stairs, etc.

He continues to be fascinated by fans, and anything vaguel circular or wheel-looking that might go around and around. He can spot a fan anywhere. If a fan is on TV or in a book, we never get past that spot without some major redirection.. he just needs to talk about the "bahn" forever (seemingly). I thought this was an unusual trait, but Becky mentioned that a boy she nannied for had a similar obsession with fans. Maybe we'll find the fan-obsession gene someday. Hmm.

Elliott also loves candles - he likes to blow them out, and he likes to dig his fingernails into the wax and fiddle with the wick until it's broken and useless. He LOVES them. He talked about "by-er" (fire) and how it's hot, and we don't touch it.. I'm excited to show him what a bonfire is this summer (and terrified too, of course). He was concerned about Nana's flaming birthday cake, but he definitely enjoyyed swiping fingerfuls of whipped frosting.

He's getting much better at remembering clusters of related ideas. He knows that Nana has a puppy, and if I say something about Nana, he's likely to say "Ray" (Rachel), puppy, work, phone, etc.
