Elliott loves walking up and down stairs - good up, scary down (insists on standing and walking - no more belly
sliding or even bum scooting). We say "one two" to encourage him to put both feet on one step, but he often ends
up hanging from our hand when he lunges forward. We're going to install a lower railing to help him out.
He can now say two or three words together - back yard, fire truck, red ball.. really seems to enjoy saying
compound words like this. tries to say longer phrases. no real sentences, but very close. Says things like "big
truck". Still working on mine and yours. still picking nose a ton.. boogie? says "Bye" when I talk on the
phone. loves peekaboo/hiding games (hiding face under a pillow). loves playing in tent firetruck. loves fire.
loves all construction and truck related things. loves water, sand, dirt.
bird = "bort" sling = "yinyinying" singing = "yinging" railing = raining
talks constantly, sings frequently, especially in the car
He's really into babies - my cabbage patch kids, esp. timmy - he talks to them, feeds them, holds them in lap to
read books, "shows" them things, gives them toys. He took me very seriously when I told him not to pick the baby
up by the hair (looked genuinely horrified that he might have hurt his baby - almost cried).
When we were taking a walk on a sidewalk, he took a spill and got a booboo on his chin. He still talks about
booboo, how dada gave him a hug, how we had to clean it and put a bandaid on it. Pulling it off was the WORST!
He's very coordinated in the tub these days - no need for the tub seat anymore. I watch him like a hawk, but I no
longer have to hover over him ready to grab him if he slips. He likes 'raining' (the shower), balls and scoops.
He scoops with his boat. He likes to splash, and pour water into containers. He also likes to "swim".
He's totally obsessed with airplanes (hard to catch visually - we hear them but can't see them now that the trees
have leafed out at home). He yells "airplane" when he hears a motor.. he's usually right too! He still loves
fans, motors, things that go and turn on... he loves to ride in the backpack while I mow the lawn (hey, it works
for me!).
We've been slowly introducing nuts - he peanut butter cookies, almonds, many other nuts. No food allergies
whatsoever, so far. He loves blueberries and strawberries. He loves lemon ice (sherbet) way more than vanilla
ice cream. He LOVES watermelon. At Grandmas and Grandpas, he ate watermelon and drank some lemonade. He sat
there saying "lemon, melon, lemon, melon" over and over.
If he doesn't get your attention immediately, he just starts chanting louder and louder and getting whiny and
desperate and cry-iee and finally has a fit. this can all happen in 5 seconds sometimes. "haveit!" screaming
while dropping said object.. it all means he's probably hungry, tired, etc. He just has NOOOO patience whatsoever
sometimes. He is all done eating, and just screams "down down down down" until we get him dowm. We calmly
explain about wiping, and a minute, but he just has no patience even though he knows the routine. As much as we
love him, it's kind of a relief sometimes when he finally goes to bed at night. Phew!
He loves ice cubes - I crush them or shave ice, but he really really wants them whole.
He no longer eats toys.. amazing how quickly that stage passes. Our house is already not baby-proof - there are
little bits of toy parts lying around. He is fascinated by miniature things. One of his favorite toys is a
little plastic cottage garden with winnie the pooh charactetrs - it's rabbit's garden, complete with tiny (1/2"
tall) plastic pots, little 2" long garden utensils, a pretend plastic seed packet, etc. He just loves carrying
these tiny toys around and playing with them. He's usually good about putting them back or remembering where he
put the bits, but occasionally I have to go on a hunt for missing objects. I can understand now why people with
more than one kid eventually give up and just throw stuff into baskets at the end of the day. I's so hard to keep
all the parts of things straight and together, when Elliott gets so much joy out of just tossing things into a big
mess in the middle of the floor.
He's back "into" balls again. Balls, airplanes and fire trucks are the theme of the week - and tractors with
scoops. For instance, I told him we were going to go visit a friend who had two boys. He immediately said,
"ball?" and I rassured him that yes, they had balls there and would play with him. That made him happy, and all
the way there he said, "boy? ball?".
